100 Tonnes of PPE, China to Greece
During the global Covid-19 pandemic, Air Charter Service was asked by a longstanding client to fly 100 tonnes of PPE and medical supplies from China to Athens on behalf of the Greek government. But with Chinese airports overwhelmed with charter flights responding to the outbreak, it was a logistical challenge to find one with space for the aircraft.
OUR SOLUTION
Route: Tianjin > Almaty > Athens
Aircraft: Antonov An-225
The flight transporting much needed PPE and medical supplies was under intense scrutiny – it had been covered extensively in the Greek media and was to be greeted by a welcome party from the government upon landing in Athens – so it was vital that everything ran smoothly and professionally. Despite limited availability due to increased demand, our expert team used their insider knowledge and contacts to source the best aircraft for the job and secure an airport slot in Tianjin. Over 10,000 boxes of cargo were then individually loaded onto the plane, which took around 15 hours. The aircraft then took off for Athens, with a rest stop in Almaty, Kazakhstan along the way.
THE FINER DETAILS
Going the extra mile: Thanks to ACS’s global presence, our team in Beijing was able to coordinate with the airport and handling agent to ensure everything ran seamlessly on the ground in Tianjin. They also oversaw the loading process and provided the client with real-time progress updates and photos throughout the process.
